Review: This is a wine for lovers of oak. And I mean lovers. The kind of people whose binkis were hewn from the family oak tree. The kind of people who add oak chips to their cereal to add flavor and fiber. The kind of people whose definition of a good time is licking oak staves and binge watching Friends. I don’t personally know anyone like this, but there’s someone out there who fits this definition, and thus, this wine.

On the nose we get oak. On the palate, oak. Finish? You got it, oak. There’s so much oak that I couldn’t taste anything else. I ate this with salami, cheese, olives, and tomatoes to see what each would do to the flavor. The salami helped temper the tannins the best, but I was still left with a mouthful of oak.

It’s possible that this wine could sit in the cellar for a decade to mellow, then maybe it would be less of an oak monster. Maybe.

If I drink this again, I’ll decant it for an hour and try it with something powerful, like a steak. That could be the ticket to enjoying this wine. As it stands now, I’m not a fan.
